Church Covenant

Our Mission

The purpose of Remsen Bible Fellowship is to proclaim the good news of Jesus, and worship him, for our joy and for God's glory. 

Church Covenant

We believe the following commitments flow naturally from both our stated mission and our doctrinal commitments. Because we exist for the glory of God, our desire is to follow and worship Jesus Christ while influencing others to do likewise. This Christ-following life, the life of a disciple, takes a particular shape. Some of the most central aspects of this discipleship are outlined under the following five headings: Word, Prayer, Holiness, Love, and Mission.

Word

"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12). The word of God is the means through which the Spirit convicts of sin, calls to repentance, and delivers the Good News of Jesus to needy sinners.

We commit to giving and receiving Biblical teaching as the central act of our corporate worship (2 Timothy 4:2)

We commit to regularly read the Bible in our homes (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

We commit to counsel one another from the Bible (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

We commit to share the words of the Bible with unbelievers (Romans 10:13-15)

Prayer

"Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication" (Ephesians 6:18). The life of the disciple must be lived in the posture of prayer, for we have no power in ourselves to love or serve God.

We commit to spend significant portions of our corporate worship in prayer (Acts 2:42, 13:3)

We commit to consistent private prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

We commit to setting apart time for the elders to gather specifically for prayer (Acts 6:4)

Holiness

"As he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct" (1 Peter 1:15). When God saves his people, he sets them apart and calls them to live lives distinct from the world. 

We commit to live personal lives of repentance from sin (1 John 1:8-9)

We commit to live lives of tangible and sacrificial love for others (John 13:34-35)

We commit to live by the marriage and sexual ethics set forth in the Bible (Hebrews 13:4)

We commit to live lives of integrity that are above reproach in our homes, workplaces, church, and community (1 Peter 2:11-12)

Love

"So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love" (1 Corinthians 13:13). Loving the body of believers is the chief mark of the Christian life. 

We commit to meet consistently for corporate worship (Hebrews 10:25)

We commit to spending time with fellow believers outside of corporate worship (Acts 2:46)

We commit to communicate our needs with others and to meet the needs of others (Acts 2:44-45)

We commit to pursue the spiritual growth of ourselves and other members (Ephesians 4:15-16)

We commit to exercise, when necessary, corrective church discipline (1 Corinthians 5:4-5)

Mission

"As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you" (John 20:21). Jesus has not given us a call to comfort, but to his mission. Christians, disciples of Jesus, exist to make disciples. 

We commit to share the gospel with unbelievers (Acts 1:8)

We commit to devote money to supporting gospel ministry inside and outside our local church (Philippians 4:17-18)

We commit to pray for laborers to be sent into the harvest (Matthew 9:37-38)

We commit to consider where God is specifically calling us to serve (Romans 15:20)
